Privacy Policy
Last updated 5 August 2026
RigVerse is built and operated by David Zhao. This policy explains what we collect, why, and what control you have. It is written to be read, not to be survived.
The short version. Your gear collection, its value, your serial numbers and your receipts are private by default. We never show your exact address. You can delete your account, and everything in it, from inside the app at any time.
What we collect
- Account details — email address, username and display name.
- Profile — bio, instruments, genres, experience level, and a general location (city and state only) if you provide one.
- Gear — the equipment you catalog: names, brands, models, years, condition, photos, purchase prices and dates, serial numbers, receipts and maintenance records.
- Activity — questions you ask, answers you write, listings you post, messages you send and items you save.
- Technical — device type, app version, and error reports, used to diagnose crashes.
How we use it
- To operate your account and show you your own collection.
- To estimate what your gear is worth, and to tell you when something you are looking for appears.
- To answer questions about your setup, using the gear you have told us you own.
- To connect you with other musicians when you choose to be discoverable.
- To detect fraud, abuse and scams.
We do not sell your personal information, and we do not share your gear collection with advertisers.
Serial numbers and receipts
Serial numbers are encrypted at rest and are never shown on a public profile, a listing, or to another user. Receipts and warranty documents are stored privately and are not publicly reachable. These details exist so that you can prove ownership if an instrument is stolen — that only works if they stay private.
Location
We store a general location — city, state and country — so we can show gear near you. We never store or display your street address. Other users see an approximate distance, never a precise position. Meetup details are shared only by you, in a private message.
Valuations and AI
Gear valuations are estimates based on available market information and are presented as ranges with their confidence and sources. They are not appraisals, and actual sale prices vary with condition, demand, location and timing.
When you ask a question, we may send the relevant details of the gear you selected to an AI provider to generate an answer. We do not send your serial numbers, receipts, purchase prices or contact details. AI answers are labelled as such, and an AI identification of a piece of gear is never saved to your collection without you confirming it.
Who can see what
- Private by default — your collection, its total value, purchase prices, serial numbers and receipts.
- Public if you choose — your profile, individual gear items you mark public, questions, answers and listings.
- Private between you and the recipient — direct messages.
You can change your profile visibility and hide your collection value at any time in the app.
Deleting your account
Open Profile → Account → Delete account. This permanently removes your account, profile, gear collection, maintenance history, listings, questions, answers and messages. It is immediate and cannot be undone. You do not need to email anyone.
Data retention
We keep your data while your account exists. When you delete your account, the data is deleted with it. Backups are rotated on a rolling basis and are purged within 30 days.
Children
RigVerse is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their information. If you believe a child has created an account, contact us and we will remove it.
Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete your personal information. Deletion is available directly in the app. For anything else, email privacy@rigverse.app.
Changes
If this policy changes materially, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect.
